Travel Bursaries Information

If you need a form for applying for a travel bursary, please send Andrew an email.

Deadline for sending in the form is 15th of March, 2009.

Bursary Policy
Since our objectives are to try to help as many delegates  as possible in as fair a manner as possible, please do take care to be as economical as possible in constructing your bids. Those travelling from overseas may find it helpful to consult the Opodo website http://www.opodo.co.uk, which frequently offers cheaper fares than can be found elsewhere.
We recommend you try more than one possible source when compiling your travel budget. Trailfinders is worth checking for long distance flights and Easyjet/BMI baby etc. for the short haul. You could check the individual websites of the following Ryanair, MyTravelLite, BMIBaby and Flybe. By registering for newsletters with these carriers you will receive updates on best offers, such as £10 offers from Ryanair.
When completing the application form, please convert all costs into pounds sterling. There is an online currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/
If you are awarded a grant please submit your claim for reimbursement immediately after the event. Should your actual costs be less than budgeted ones, this will permit additional resources to be used for other delegates.
Please do not attach any original receipts to this form – if your application is approved you will be informed how to claim any money awarded to you, and you will need your receipts to do so.
Delegates are required to be presenting research (paper or work), not merely attending the conference, to be eligible.
It is expected that delegates, in order to keep claims within manageable limits, will use the cheapest forms of transport available.
A maximum of £100 is available per delegate.

Selection Process
Our selection process will take into account indicated need and necessity when allocating bursaries. It may not be possible to fund the total amount requested but we intend to do our best to help those who need it. One of the stipulated conditions of the AHRC funding is that it should go towards funding mainly UK based students, as a result more funding will be available for UK based delegates than international delegates.

We recommend applying to your own institution and local or national funding bodies in order to further subsidise your trip. Please indicate any funding that has already been allocated to you, or that you will be applying for, including a brief assessment of your chance of success.

One day more SSSP: 6th-8th of May, 2009

With our funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), we have the possibility of extending the event to three days instead of two (6th-8th of May). Therefore we can offer more space for concerts, talks and discussions.
